"Let me be as plain as I can be. I'm a product of the public school system. I had wonderful teachers and a great school system that prepared me. But I have no patience for a system (which) doesn't work for some. So I do not bash teachers. I bash their stubborn, self-interested Union."
"[Teacher Organizations] couldn't function like a labor union until the 1960s"- The Worm in the Apple: How the teacher unions are destroying American education. Peter Brimelow copyright 2003
The reason : A public sector union would just have too much power... all labor unions are engaged in trying to monopolize the supply of labor... a public sector union would be a monopoly on top of a monopoly, [and] public education is a third monopoly, because [of] compulsory attendance laws. So public sector unions were prohibited by law. But this inhibition like so many others abruptly vanished in the 1960s. In return for labor union support, President John F. Kennedy issued an executive order allowing collective bargaining.
